BACKGROUND

Hobby Lobby’s latest national ad campaign for July 4th, which calls for a Christian-run federal government, conveys a dangerous, exclusionary dominionist message. This is a direct attack on freedom of religion and separation of church and state.

Hobby Lobby and the Green family have, for too long, been pushing their religious bigotry upon the American people. Within the past 10 years alone, they’ve used religious freedom as a shield to justify anti-semitism by employees, evangelizing in Oklahoma public schools, endangering employees by staying open during the COVID pandemic (based upon “a message from God”), and so much more.

The American Humanist Association is calling for an interfaith coalition to publicly boycott Hobby Lobby and demand their public redaction and acknowledgment of the religious freedom rights that we are all entitled to as American citizens. We hope that you all join us in taking away our business and support for Hobby Lobby and the Green family.

We can’t do this alone. Hobby Lobby has proven that they will continue to excuse scandal after scandal. But together, we can draw public attention to the harm of their theocratic messaging--enough so that their brand becomes synonymous with un-American ideals in the eyes of their consumers.

What you can do:

If you are an organization that would like to partner with us, please fill out the form under Partners.

At this time, signing onto the boycott would entail:

  • Adding your logo to the partner page of BoycottHobbyLobby.org

  • Signing onto a letter of support

  • Sharing information about the boycott to your supporters via email and/or social media

  • The option to join press opportunities

We’re not just looking for support from organizations. We need individuals who can also pledge to boycott Hobby Lobby and the unconstitutional ideals they stand for. Under the Take Action tab, you can find a template letter to send (over email or via post) to Hobby Lobby’s corporate office. You can also find social media tools to spread awareness of this project.
